Our school began as a ministry and vision of Pastor Herbert W. Ezell in 1977. He envisioned a school on two blocks of land that would offer quality Christian education to the church families at Harbor Christian Center and those in the community. Happy Harbor Preschool opened in 1978 and by 1980 had established a kindergarten program. The vision for a middle school program began in 1981 and 1st, 7th and 8th grade classes were enrolled. By 1982, the full program of prekindergarten through 9th grade graduating class had graced our campus. Today we are one school under the name Pacific Harbor Christian School, preschool through high school. In 1996, a Toddler Program was added to our existing preschool license allowing us to expand our services to children age 18 months and up. We run the length of 2 blocks beginning at Sandison Street with Little Happy Harbor and having 2 other preschool buildings, one prekindergarten building, and the main campus (K-8th grade) which is connected to the building that houses our school office. The high school campus (9th through 12th grade) is located a block further north and across the street. Other areas of expansion include a Before and After School Program and a Summer Day Camp Program that includes academics and computer lab. A decision to demolish two existing older structures on the elementary campus between the office and the preschool was made in 1999 and the project began in November of that year. A new building was built that houses our library and three more classrooms. A second building located on the same lot houses a large cafeteria, a kitchen, a staff conference room, and new restroom facilities. These new buildings were completed and opened in the summer of 2000. Our future vision is for a high school Paced Program which will tentatively open in 2010. The high school is an extension of our vision for Building Christian Character in students in 9th - 12th grade by completing daily goals that successfully move them toward graduation, students must complete a minimum of 4 pages per day per subject and master concepts before moving on. All required paces per subject must be completed to earn the necessary credits to graduate. There are three options for graduation diplomas at PHCS, that include a Vocational Diploma, a General Education Diploma, or an Honors Diploma. Our vision is to move into a traditional high school program after remodeling the building over the next 5 years.
